The dictionary defines a woman as “an adult female human being”; while purpose is “our reason for being and for what we do”. It is why we are here on the earth.  Each one of us has a unique purpose in life and it is up to us to discover our purpose and to fulfil it.  By doing so, we will be a blessing to others and be blessed as well.  The Bible tells us that “To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). It also states that “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28). Jesus knew His purpose and that He was called to do good to people because the Acts of the Apostles records “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil” (Acts 10:38).  As a woman you need to ask yourself, “Why am I here?”, “Why do I exist?” “What am I here to do?”and “Who have I been sent to?” It is very important for you to discover what your purpose in life is so that you can live a rewarding and fulfilled life.

There are some women in the Bible who discovered their purpose and who lived fulfilled lives. I will only talk about Esther and Deborah. Esther’s purpose was to strategically deliver the Jews. She found favour before the king when she made her request. Before her uncle, Mordecai, talked to her about the impending evil planned against the Jews, she had not done anything significant with her life. In the place of preparation and prayer, she received faith to step out because she was reminded that death was hanging in the air. She became sold out to her purpose and was ready to die for her people. She was recorded to have said, “If I perish, I perish”. Esther discovered that her purpose in the palace was not just to enjoy life’s comforts; she knew her fulfilment would come from saving the lives of her people. You need to take time to ponder and ask yourself why you are here on earth at this present time. Until you know why you are here, you will only exist and you will not live a meaningful life.

Deborah was a wife, a prophet and a judge in Israel. She helped the Israelites to gain victory over their enemies. Barak told her that he wouldn’t go to the battlefront if Deborah did not go with him and so, she went with him. Woman, what has God told you to do? Discover it and focus on it and He will give you the grace to accomplish it.

Mother Theresa was another woman who lived an amazing life. She devoted herself to caring for the sick and the poor. She impacted their lives.  Her organisation established a hospice, a leper colony and centres for the blind, the aged, and the disabled. She received the Nobel Peace Prize for her humanitarian work. I want you to know that by discovering your purpose, you can gain clarity, focus, and direction in your life. If you want to live a significant life or make a difference in this world, then you will have to discover your purpose and be who God has destined you to be. Your talents, gifts and skills must be used to benefit others.
Finally, I want you to make up your mind today to be a woman of purpose. Be purposeful in all that you do. Pray and meditate on God’s word. Let Him speak to you because hearing from Him enhances your purpose. When you walk in His purpose, you will be fulfilled and blessed beyond measure and your life will take on meaning and significance.

The 21st Century Mother

Jochebed gave birth to Moses at a time when Pharaoh had given the command that all male Hebrew babies should be thrown into the river. Even before Moses had done anything for her, Jochebed saw that he was a beautiful child, risked her life and hid him for three months. She showed creativity when she placed Moses in a basket in the rushes by the river; the same river where the male babies were supposed to have been killed, yet he was saved by Pharaoh’s daughter.  She is a good example of the 21st century woman.( Exodus 2:2)

We learn from Jochebed that there is a time to hide our children in God’s love and prayer. We need to see beyond our children’s flaws or handicaps and believe that they are beautiful children with bright destinies.  She understood that God would never give us children who are nightmares. Never write off any child.  As a 21st century mother, you have got to be informed about young people. Get on social media and get into your children’s space even as you bring them into your own space too. Be committed to your family and children. Be tenacious about what can kill them; things that can lure their hearts away from God. Through prayers, go ahead to shield them from negative influences and lifestyles. Teach them God’s word, be there to support them, vet the curriculum of their schools and ensure that you have given them the right foundation to counter wrong teaching. Children of nowadays know many things that their parents do not know; parents and guardians needs to step up the game.   A 21st century woman communicates excellently with her children, their friends and with the things that communicate with them, she ensures that the communication channel remains unclogged.  She is also a woman of faith; she is not fearful even though raising children in this day and age can be daunting, God expects us to receive grace for the assignment from him ( Matthew 11:28-30

The 21st century woman is a woman of covenant and she introduces that covenant to her children. Teach your children to pray about different matters and help them build their confidence in God. Do not compromise your values when relating with them, do not compare them with their peers, commend them when they do right. Love them unconditionally guide them from a young age and do not shy away from discussing various topics with them. You will get to know more about them and their beliefs when you do. Be a person of integrity because your children are watching you and they are more likely to copy what you do rather than what you say. Monitor your children’s activities, physically and on the internet and advise them against wrong lifestyles. Don’t impose your values on your children. When you discipline them, do it from a standpoint of love.

The 21st century mother wears many hats but Jesus says we should come to him so he can give us rest. Ask God to give you wisdom to handle all the different aspects of your assignment so you can live a successful life and be happy over your children in the latter part of your life

Faith For The Next Level

The Bible says that without faith it is impossible to please God.  This means that you should not expect to receive anything from God without faith in Him and His word. Your faith may be as small as a mustard seed, but it can still cause God to act on your behalf or give you whatever you need. Jesus told His disciples that with even very little faith, we can move mountains and that nothing would be impossible to anyone who has faith (Matthew 17:20). Jesus was amazed by the persistent faith of people like blind Bartimaeus who called out to Jesus till he got his healing; in spite of the people around him telling him to keep quiet and the Canaanite woman whose daughter was demon possessed. Even when Jesus told  her that healing was meant for the Jews, she said she was willing to settle for the crumbs. Her daughter was healed from that hour because of her faith (Mark 10:46-52; Matthew 15:21-28).

In the Old Testament, Abraham and his wife were promised a son and they waited for many years before the promise came to pass. Eventually, Isaac was born in their old age. Some years after his birth, God asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, his only son, to Him. Abraham did not hesitate. However, just before Abraham sacrificed Isaac, God told him to stop. Abraham’s faith amazed God and this caused God to swear by Himself and pronounce blessings upon Abraham and his descendants. God also declared Abraham righteous because he believed Him (Romans 4:3). Zechariah and Elizabeth also released their faith in service to God and He fulfilled His promise to them by giving them John the Baptist. When we believe God and His word, we give Him great joy. His greatest pain is when we doubt Him because of circumstances and challenges that confront us.

I want to challenge you to live a life of faith in God.  What has God promised you? Hold on to the promise to the end. Have faith and don’t be moved by what people say or what your situation is saying to you right now.

Another woman in the Bible who expressed radical faith was the woman with the issue of blood. She interrupted Jesus’ itinerary for that day because she was not on His “to-do list”. He was actually going to heal Jairus’ daughter but He allowed the interruption and she received her miracle (Mark5:25-34). She came behind Jesus in the crowd and touched the hem of His garment. She said to herself, “if only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well”. As she strove to touch Jesus, she was speaking to herself. This is important because you need to check what you are saying to yourself.  What are you saying to yourself? What are you allowing people to say to you?  It is important you pay attention to your thoughts and words. This woman KNEW that if she could just touch His garment, she would be made whole. For her, it wasn’t a matter of chance; she knew it was her season that day because she had heard that Jesus was able to heal and deliver. The Bible states that she had suffered many things from physicians but instead of getting better, she got worse. I don’t know what could represent a flow in your life. It may be a cycle that you have not been able to break or maybe it is a circumstance that clings to you. You may have tried everything you know to do or maybe your health has failed or is failing, you lack adequate education or you are always falling into sin. You may have issues with mediocrity or you do not have your own apartment or office. Whatever it is, it is time for you to have faith in God. It is time for you to experience a turnaround in your life. It is time for you to experience that breakthrough you so desire! You only need to have faith in God! Be like this woman and say to yourself, “it’s either God or nobody else”. I will touch God today by having faith in Him.

Finally, Jesus asked that when He returns, would He find faith upon the earth? Many times it is when we have come to the end of the road that we demonstrate our faith in God. Really, do we  have to wait till we get to that point before we express aggressive faith? Always say to yourself that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Always draw your strength from Him to do all He has purposed for you to do. Do not worry because when you worry, it means you do not believe God is able to help you. We have been admonished not to worry about anything but rather make our requests known to God through prayer and supplication with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6).

I want to implore you, do not doubt God; rather, have faith in Him. Do not doubt His promise to you.  Doubting God does not help or profit you in any way. When you believe God and you are absolutely convinced that He is able to do anything He promised, He will come through for you. He will take you to the next level; just as He has taken those who have obtained His promises through faith.

In His love,
